FYI I used the $5 off coupon at the Staples in State College. The store manager was at the cash register when I paid and asked me for my rewards card. When I said I didn’t have one she wanted to know where I got the coupon. I told her they were found in many places on the web. She was like, “They aren’t supposed to be. They’re only supposed to be emailed directly to people with the rewards card.”
She reluctantly let me use it anyway but was visibly suspicious and I felt like a scolded child. :-/
I also want to point out the $5 coupon in this post is not from an email BUT from the Staples.com website when viewing their weekly ad. So, Erika, you had every right to use it!
I’m so sorry to hear about your experience at our local Staples. I have a Staples Rewards Card and so never had this problem.
This makes me think of coupon ethics. I will definitely think twice about posting coupons that should not be shared. In fact, I’ve been doing that recently with coupons and freebies I hear about. I hate to do anything unfair and unethical.
