DIY: Summer Fun Wood Sign Blocks

SummerFunBlocksFinale

I am back with another summer-themed DIY project – Summer Fun Wood Sign Blocks. They are my casual way of displaying a fun “to-do” list for any summer.

I was looking at my apothecary jar filled with paper ball decorations sitting on my mantle and thought it needed a fun accessory to sit next to it. I’ve also been wanting to make decorative blocks using Mod Podge. So, I came up with these Summer Fun Wood Sign Blocks.

These decorative blocks are super easy to make. All I needed was a printer, cardstock paper, straight edge cutter/trimmer, paint, foam paint brush, Mod Podge and wood blocks.

If you have wood scraps, then you could use that and save some money.

How to make a Summer Fun Wood Sign Blocks – Here’s my Tutorial:

Print words on paper: I typed out all the things that made me think of summer. I made different fonts and sizes for the activities listed. This is very similar to what I did for my springtime bunny banner. I formatted and printed it on cardstock paper. I used a brownish color cardstock paper that reminded me of the beach.

Cut paper: I cut out my list and the bigger words SUMMER and FUN to fit the wood pieces they would go on.

Paint the Blocks: I painted the wood pieces to match my cardstock paper. I only applied one coat. I let it dry completely.

Apply paper to wood blocks: For each wood piece, I first applied Mod Podge on the back of the paper and also on the one side the wood block the paper would be glued. I placed the paper onto the wood and smoothed it out. I waited 15 minutes for it to dry. I applied Mod Podge on the top of the paper and waited again 15 minutes for it to dry. I then put another coat of Mod Podge.

I also applied one coat of Mod Podge to the rest of the sides of the blocks.

Mod Podge is a great to use in crafty projects. You may recall I did a project where I used it on wood scraps to make a Patchwork Wood Wall Art. I even used Mod Podge on glass jars to repurpose them into beautiful vases or office supply holders

And that’s it. The Summer Fun Wood Sign Blocks are easy to make…simple…but is a nice summer-themed décor accessory.
