DIY: Halloween Egg Carton Bats and Leaf Ghosts (Kids Craft)

EggCartonBatsGhostLeavesFinale

This year I’ve made a few fall themed items – fall wreath, a button tree art, and a swirly pumpkin & leaf garland –  but I realized none of them screamed Halloween. :) It was time to make something.

My kids and I recently did two fun Halloween crafts. We made cute bats out of an egg carton and adorable ghosts from leaves. Both projects are easy and kid friendly.

I originally saw the bats on Enchanted Learning. I found the leaf ghosts on Disney’s Family Fun website. I thought hanging them together would look spooky cool in a cutesy kind of way. :)

The materials used for the bats were an egg carton, scissors, black paint, paintbrush, googly eyes, glue and ribbon.

The materials used for the ghosts were artificial (maple shaped) leaves, white paint, paintbrush, black marker, glue and ribbon.

Want to know how to make egg carton bats and leaf ghosts?! Here’s the tutorial?

The Bats

I cut out 3 cups from an egg carton. I then cut the bottoms of the 2 outside cups to resemble bat wings.

My two daughters and I painted them black. We painted one coat.

We glued the googly eyes after the paint was dry. I glued ribbon to the top of each bat so we could hang them.

The Ghosts

The leaves we used are from my local dollar store. I painted the leaves white on both sides. The leaves needed 2 coats of paint. The kids and I drew ghostly eyes and mouths. Aren’t they cute?! I especially love how my kids insisted the ghosts’ mouths had to look like they were saying “Booo…oooo!”
