I’ve never created a piece of art using this many mediums. Some call it Mixed Media Art. I call it a house made out of a book, wine corks, folding ruler, jewelry pendants, scrabble tiles and a button.
Phew – that’s a lot of different materials. I hope don’t scare you with this long list. The project was easy to make once I gathered all my items.
Along with the materials listed above, I also used a pencil, cardboard, E-6000 glue (industrial strength glue), a knife, Mod Podge and a foam paint brush to make this project.
Want to know how to make this Mixed Media House Art? Here’s the tutorial:
The roof is made out of a folding ruler, cardboard and wine corks. The base of the house is a book. The windows are jewelry pendants. The door is made from scrabble tiles with a button as the door knob.
NOTE: I purchased the rectangle and square shaped jewelry pendants from PickYourPlum when they had a deal on it. There are similar pendants at Michaels. In fact, I purchased the oval shaped pendant on clearance at Michaels. Some of the wine corks were ones I saved and the rest were from Michaels – in the vase filler section. (I used a 50% off coupon on it). The scrabble tiles I already had (I’ve done other projects using tiles such as my Fall Tree Scrabble Button Art and Christmas Scrabble Art). I already had the button and the folding ruler.
I cut out a triangular shape from a cardboard box. You’ll notice the bottom part of the triangle continues down so I could glue it to my book.
I glued the folding ruler to the cardboard triangle.
I arranged the wine corks within the triangle. The ones that were upright I cut in half using a knife so it was the same height as the corks laying horizontal. I then glued the wine corks in place.
I glued the roof to the book. I used plenty of E-6000 glue.
I arranged the pendants, scrabble tiles and button and then glued them in place.
I also used Mod Podge to secure the book’s sides so you would not be able to open the book. I did three coats of Mod Podge.
I love how my Mixed Media Artwork turned out. I think this house is beautiful. It’ll look great in my living room where I have my Repurposed Glass Jars with Decorative Paper and Patchwork Wood Wall Art. I plan to hang it on the wall in the near future. I will try and post a picture when that happens.
So, have you made any mixed media projects?
