I created a new wall décor project for my daughter’s bedroom. It’s a beautiful and dreamy decorative mirror. I wanted it to reflect the following thoughts – “reach for the stars” and “dream big.” I was easily able to do this using both FolkArt Multi-Surface Paints and Handmade Charlotte Stencils.
A celestial stencil pattern paired with multi-surface paint made it simple to create a starry design on two different surfaces – a mirror and wood. I loved being able to use the same paints and the same star stencils on one project.
The materials I used to make a Dreamy Stenciled Mirror were FolkArt Multi-Surface Aqua paint, FolkArt Multi-Surface Perfect Purple paint, Handmade Charlotte Celestial Stencils, paper towels, paper bowl, foam brushes (I used Plaid Foam Spouncers), tape, mirror, DREAM wooden word, adhesive rhinestones, hot glue gun and glue sticks.
FolkArt Multi-Surface Paint and Handmade Charlotte Stencils are available at Michaels.
The mirror frame and the DREAM wooded word were already in white. I wanted both pieces to stay white. All I had to do was stencil stars on the mirror as well as on the DREAM wooden word. I chose to paint the stars in aqua and purple to match my daughter’s bedroom décor.
First, I cleaned my mirror. I placed my DREAM wooden word on my mirror and used tape to mark the top and bottom of it. I did this so I knew where not to stencil the stars.
I decided how I wanted the layout of my stars to look on the mirror.
To stencil, I first dipped my foam brush into the paint. I like to put my paint in a paper bowl or plate so I can dispose and clean it up easily. I wiped excess paint off my brush onto a paper towel. I did not want too much paint on my brush when stenciling. I then dapped within my desired stenciled area.
I made sure I kept the stencil in place with one hand while dabbing with the other. You could use tape to secure your stencil. But my fingers and hands worked fine because I was only stenciling 1-2 stars at a time. I carefully lifted the stencil when done.
I stenciled smaller stars to decorate the DREAM wooden word. I also added some sparkle by attaching small adhesive rhinestones on the mirror near the stars.
Once the stars were completely dried, I hot glued the DREAM wooden word onto the middle of the mirror.
This beautiful stenciled mirror is going to look great hanging in my daughter’s bedroom. You can create a similar project and give it your own personal touch by easily coordinating patterns and colors. You could use a different Handmade Charlotte stencil, a different wooden word and other colors from FolkArt Multi-Surface paint.
