DIY: Just Write Valentine’s Day Printable Card

I have another fun and free Valentine’s Day printable card to share with you. It’s heart shaped and may be “just right” as a non-candy option for school valentines. They are adorable “You are just WRITE” Valentine’s Day cards.

JustWriteValentineCloseup

All you need to do is print our “You are just WRITE Valentine’s Day” tag, cut the hearts out and attach a pencil.

JustWriteValentineMaterials

I used a hole puncher plus I used scissors to create two slits for the pencil to go through.

JustWriteValentineHole

You need to make sure the hole or slit is big enough to fit your pencil.

DIY: 3D Heart Decoration

Two years ago, I made cute little 3 dimensional hearts and placed them in picture frames. I am feeling sentimental about it. You see, I made those hearts because my youngest daughter wanted Valentine’s decorations and at the time we had none. It was also my first ever Happy Clippings DIY project. So in a way, you could say those hearts brought back my creative side and my love for do -it-yourself and craft projects. It also helped Happy Clippings evolve into the blog it is today.

3DHeartFinale

Let’s get back to this 3D Heart Decoration. This time I made one big 3 dimensional heart with a cupid’s arrow. It is an easy and quick project to put together.

I already had beautiful Valentine’s Day themed paper left over from an owl project I recently made. I also had all the other supplies needed to create a beautiful Valentine décor.
3DHeartMaterials

The materials I used to make this framed Valentine decoration was scrapbook paper, red cardstock paper, pink cardstock paper, gray cardstock paper, scissors, pencil, glue, ribbon and a frame.

First, I cut out four (4) big hearts using 4 different scrapbook papers. I created a heart template and using the template I cut each heart.

Since I was going to fold the hearts anyways, I folded the scrapbook paper and placed the folded heart template on top. This made it quick and easy to cut the hearts.

3DHeartFramedStep1

I glued two of the hearts together back to back . Then I glued the other two hearts together back to back. Finally, I glued together the two sets of hearts creating a pretty 3 dimensional heart.

Using the same heart template, I cut one more heart out of red cardstock paper to be the backing of the 3D heart.

3DHeartBacking

I also cut out an arrow using a template I made.

3DHeartTemplate

If you want to use my heart and arrow template, you can download it HERE.

3DHeartBackground

I glued the red heart onto the back and then glued the arrow. I cut my gray cardstock paper to fit the frame. I glued another Valentine themed paper (6×6 size) onto the middle of the gray cardstock paper. Finally, I glued the 3D heart onto the middle.

3DHeartCloseup

One more finishing touch – a pretty pink ribbon tied onto the end of the bow. Now, our framed 3 dimensional heart is complete and gorgeous. It is even more lovely sitting next to a vase full of red tulips.

I hope your day is filled with happiness and love!

DIY: Valentine Paper Roll Owls

My 9 year old daughter inspired this sweet project. The other day she came home with a cute paper roll owl she made at school. I told her I loved it. My daughter suggested we make more but with a Valentine’s Day theme – “you know with hearts and we can hang it on our kitchen light.” My first thought – that’s brilliant.

ValentinePaperRollOwlsFinale

My second thought was how awesome it is to have a creative daughter.  I appreciate it because I love making creative crafts just like her.

So, off I went to Michaels craft store to find Valentine’s Day themed paper.

ValentinePaperRollOwlsMaterials

The materials I used to make these Valentine’s Day Paper Roll Owls are toilet paper rolls, Valentine’s Day themed scrapbook paper, red cardstock paper, orange cardstock paper, googly (wiggle) eyes, pencil, scissors, glue, paint brush, circle puncher, heart stickers and ribbon.

My daughter helped me make these cute owls.

First, I cut scrapbook paper to fit the paper roll. I glued the paper onto the paper roll. I used Mod Podge as my glue.

I found it easy to apply the glue using a paintbrush and hold the paper roll by putting a few fingers inside it.

ValentinePaperRollOwlsStep1

To make the ears, push down slowly on one end of of the roll (see picture above). Repeat on other side.

I made the eyes by using googly eyes (size 14mm) and gluing onto red paper cut into circles. I cut a beak using orange paper. I glued the eyes and beak on.

ValentinePaperRollOwlsStep2

I then made the wings. I cut out heart shaped wings and glue to the sides of the owl.

I attached ribbon to the top so we could hang our pretty Valentine owls on our kitchen chandelier.

I also placed one heart sticker on each owl to give them some extra love.

What do think of our Valentine Owls? I think they are adorable. Let’s give my sweet daughter a big cheer. She is thrilled to have her idea featured on here.

DIY: Wheelie Fun Valentine’s Day Card (Printable)

I have a “wheelie” fun Valentine’s Day card to share with you. As you may know, I have three kids. Two daughters and one son. I have already shared our cute Valentine’s card ideas for my daughters. This “wheelie” Valentine printable card was created for my son to give to his classmates.

WheelieFunValentineCardFinale

This boyish card was inspired by the I “Wheelie” Like You card which I featured in our Valentine’s Day Card Ideas for Boys.

We plan to put a die cast car in each bag, tie it up and attach our  “Have a Wheelie Fun Valentine’s Day” tag. The dies cast cars we’re using was purchased at Party City (for $9.99 for a bag of 24 cars). You could pair this Valentine printable with any toy car, car shaped candies or Disney Cars Fruit Snacks.

Another idea is to use Life Savers Gummies since they look like tires.

DIY: Wine Cork Heart and Valentine’s Display

I put together a beautiful Valentine’s heart display for our mantle. I simply hung hearts on branches. The main heart is made out of wine corks.

WineCorkHeartFinale

Little red puffy felt hearts are also hanging on the branches. I purchased the felt hearts at Michaels and attached thread through the back. The branches are curly willow branches (also from Michaels) that I placed into a vase filled with pebble rocks. Some of the branches I purposely arranged sideways so it would have a leaning appearance.

This isn’t the first time I created a Valentine’s Day theme mantle display. One year I placed 3D framed paper hearts on our mantle. Another year I put a framed Heart Tree Art and chalkboard jars with hearts drawn on them.  Our current Valentine’s Day display of hearts is my favorite.  I love how it looks.

WineCorkHeartMantle

The part of this heart tree display I love the most is the Wine Cork Heart. It was easy to make.

If you are saving wine corks, then you may already have enough for this project. You can also purchase wine corks at a craft store or online. I did another project – Mixed Media Artwork: A House – where some of the wine corks were ones I saved and the rest I bought at Michaels. The corks I used for this wine cork heart project was purchased from an Etsy shop.

WineCorkHeartMaterials

All you need to make the Wine Cork Heart are wine corks and a hot glue gun with glue sticks.

I also cut out a heart from paper to use as a template. You can just wing it. I liked having a template to ensure my heart was symmetrical.

WineCorkHeartLayout

I glued the wine corks together using my heart template as my guide. I waited for it to be completely dry. I then tied a string through and hung it.

What do you think? I think it’s pretty and simple. Have you or do you decorate your home for Valentine’s Day?

DIY: Bursting with Happiness Valentine’s Day Card (Printable)

This year my youngest daughter wanted to give her friends homemade Valentine’s Day cards. She didn’t want to do the cute School of Fish Valentine’s Day cards her sister made last year. So, we created these fun Bursting with Happiness Valentine’s Day cards. They were inspired by Starburst Candies Valentine Tags found on BHG.
